When it comes to materials selection, we’re always mindful of the local climate conditions. For example, if building near coastal areas where salt spray can be an issue 316 stainless steel may be required rather than 304 grade stainless steel used on most projects inland.

We also try and choose materials with low embodied energy (the amount of energy required for extraction/ production) like recycled plastic composites for decking, or locally sourced timbers that are FSC certified.

Overall, our goal is to create homes that are not only comfortable and livable but also sustainable and environmentally responsible.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who’s considering building a tiny home in a tropical climate?

A: My advice would be to do your research and work with a reputable builder who has experience designing for tropical climates. There are unique challenges when it comes to building in these environments, so it’s important to choose materials and designs that can withstand the local conditions.

Also, don’t forget about access. Most rural areas in Australia have narrow roads which can cause issues with delivery of larger pre-manufactured components such as bathroom pods or modular sections. Make sure you discuss delivery options with your builder prior to signing any contracts.
