12 Tips for Decluttering Your Holiday Decorations and Starting the New Year Right

The holiday season is a time of joy and celebration, but it can also be a time of clutter and chaos. As the festivities come to an end, many people find themselves overwhelmed by the amount of decorations that need to be put away. If you’re feeling stressed out by your post-holiday mess, don’t worry! Here are ten tips for decluttering your holiday decorations:

1. Start with a Plan
Before you dive headfirst into decluttering, take some time to plan out your strategy. Decide which areas you want to tackle first and create a timeline for yourself. Having a clear plan in place will help keep you focused and motivated throughout the process.

2. Sort Everything Out
Once you have your plan in place, it’s time to start sorting through all of your holiday decorations. Create different piles or boxes for items that need to be thrown away, donated or kept.

3. Get Rid of Broken Items
As you sort through everything, make sure to get rid of any broken or damaged items right away instead of holding onto them thinking they might be useful one day.

4. Donate Unused Decorations
If there are items that are still in good condition but haven’t been used in years, consider donating them instead of keeping them stored away collecting dust.

5. Store Seasonal Items Properly
When storing seasonal items such as ornaments or lights use storage containers designed specifically for these types of decorations so they stay organized and protected from damage.

6.Use Labels
Label each storage container clearly describing its contents so when next year rolls around it will be easier to find what you are looking for without digging through multiple boxes

7.Avoid Overloading Your Storage Space
Avoid storing too many things in one space; this can lead to overcrowding which makes getting what you need difficult.

8.Don’t Keep Unwanted Gifts
It’s easy during the holidays season for friends or family members gift unwanted items. If you don’t love it, don’t keep it! Instead, donate it to a local charity or thrift store.

9.Know When to Let Go
Be honest with yourself and let go of decorations that no longer bring joy into your life. We often hold onto things for sentimental reasons but sometimes we need to let them go so others can enjoy them.

10.Create New Traditions
Consider creating new traditions that involve less stuff such as taking a day trip or spending quality time with loved ones instead of exchanging gifts

11.Clean Up As You Go
Lastly, clean up as you declutter. Wipe down surfaces and vacuum the floors in between steps so cleaning up doesn’t feel like a daunting task when everything is sorted through.

12.Pat Yourself on The Back!
Once you’ve finished decluttering your holiday decorations, take a moment to pat yourself on the back! Decluttering can be an overwhelming process but by following these tips, you’ll be able to start the new year off on the right track with less clutter in your home.
