Drew Barrymore’s Journey to Minimalism and Decluttering

Drew Barrymore: A Journey of Minimalism and Decluttering
Drew Barrymore is known for her acting, producing, directing, and writing skills. However, what some may not know is that she is also a minimalist. Drew’s journey to minimalism and decluttering started when she was just a teenager.
As a child actor, Drew had a lot of material possessions that took up space in her life. She stated in an interview with Architectural Digest that “I had so much stuff as a kid because I was working since I was 11 months old.” Growing up with these possessions made Drew realize that having too many things doesn’t necessarily equate to happiness.
When Drew turned 13 years old, she became emancipated from her parents and moved into her own apartment in Los Angeles. At this point in time, she decided to take control of her belongings by getting rid of everything she didn’t need or want.
Drew’s minimalist mindset continued throughout the years. In 1998, at the age of 23 years old, she purchased two historic homes on the same block in Hollywood Hills. These homes were built in the early 1900s and needed renovation work done on them before they could be lived-in ready.
During this renovation period, Drew had to make decisions about what stayed and what went. This process helped solidify her values around minimalism even more as it forced her to choose only items essential for daily life rather than accumulating unnecessary things.
In addition to house renovations being catalysts for decluttering efforts for many people (as seen on popular TV shows like Tidying Up with Marie Kondo), it also helped refine Drew’s interior design aesthetic towards clean lines and simplicity.
Today, Drew’s home reflects this aesthetic as well as the principles of minimalism with simple décor choices such as neutral colors schemes paired with natural wood accents which create a warm atmosphere without feeling too cluttered.
Drew has also applied her minimalist principles to her wardrobe. In an interview with Good Housekeeping, she mentioned that she had a “one in, one out” rule for her clothes. This means whenever she purchases something new, it’s time to say goodbye to something old and donate or sell it.
Drew’s closet may not be as extensive as some other celebrities, but she still manages to look fabulous on the red carpet while keeping up with fashion trends. Her go-to outfits usually consist of simple yet elegant pieces that highlight her natural beauty without being too flashy or overdone.
In addition to decluttering physical items from her life, Drew has also worked towards minimizing mental clutter by practicing mindfulness and meditation. She openly speaks about the positive impact these practices have had on her life in interviews and speeches.
Drew is also passionate about giving back through various philanthropic efforts such as supporting animal welfare organizations like The Humane Society of the United States and World Wildlife Fund (WWF). By focusing on causes close to her heart, Drew can give back without accumulating more possessions or materialistic items that could add unnecessary clutter into her life.
Overall, Drew Barrymore’s journey towards minimalism and decluttering started early in life due to a childhood filled with material possessions. As she matured into adulthood and became financially independent at age 13 years old, Drew took control of what was important in terms of belongings – realizing that having fewer things made more sense for happiness than accumulating them unnecessarily.
From renovating historic homes to applying minimalism principles when designing wardrobes or spaces within those homes; meditating regularly while donating time/money/efforts towards charities close by heart – all these actions demonstrate how living purposefully rather than acquiring possessions can lead us toward greater satisfaction in our lives overall.
